Credit Calculation
- 2 Qualifying Persons The qualifying individuals whose care expenses generate the credit.
- 3 Qualified Expenses Your total qualified expenses for the care of all qualifying persons listed on line 2.
- 4 Your Earned Income Your earned income for the year.
- 6 Smallest of Amounts The smallest of three numbers: your qualified expenses (line 3), your earned income (line 4), or your spouse's earned income (line 5).
- 8 Allowable Expenses The smaller of your calculated amount from line 6 or the dollar limit -- $3,000 for one qualifying person, $6,000 for two or more qualifying persons.
- 9 Credit Percentage The percentage applied to your allowable expenses to calculate the credit.
- 11 Child and Dependent Care Credit Your final child and dependent care credit. This is the smaller of the credit amount from line 9b or your tax liability.
